Surface Pattern Exhibition

Monday, May 14, 2012

James Roper, one of our Tank Theory Artist Society contributors, shot over info on a new show he's exhibiting in, called Surface Tension. James' work always blows our minds, so don't miss this opportunity to check out his work.  Anyone in Dallas should go and check it out! Info below...

SURFACE PATTERN, a group show featuring works by Dean Monogenis, Pepa Prieto, Misato Suzuki, Thomas Spoerndle, Morgan Blair, Lucas Martell, John Guthrie, James Roper, Jessy Nite, Eddie Villanueva, Books Bischof, and Maxomatic.
Within this survey of abstraction, each artist examines the rich complexity of form, color, and line; defining and reinventing the surface of each composition.

Departing from representational accuracy, pre-existing forms are exaggerated or simplified; challenging the audiences perception, transforming visual language, and posing meaningful contradictions. From fluid and organic to geometric and methodical, each surface is carefully structured to reflect an array of visual stimulus. Some works are playful and inviting, others meditative or incongruous; yet all fixating and enticing the viewers neurological attraction.
The goal of each pattern is to exist without reference from the visual world. The goal of each surface is to amplify or displace each pattern, transforming otherwise disparate images into carefully constructed visual stimuli.  Methodical, meditative, intuitive, visceral, and calculated. As Arshile Gorky so eloquently put it, “ ..Abstract art enables the artist to perceive beyond the tangible, to extract the infinite out of the finite. It is the emancipation of the mind. It is an explosion into unknown areas.”

Outpost

Tuesday, Feb 21, 2012

This is old news, but news that had never been posted here, so we're posting it now. A friend from Australia (he's slobbering the bottom image) forwarded these pictures of our art director Zach that he captured at a huge event in Australia on Cockatoo Island called Outpost at the end of last year.  Zach was featured on a larger than life poster in a side event thrown by T-world magazine called "Next - The Future of Tshirt Graphics". Zach was asked about the future of tshirt graphics and they displayed his words prominent!

Wilderness Line!

Monday, Dec 19, 2011

Welcome to the new online face of Tank Theory!  We have redesigned and streamlined our website to reflect a new era in graphic tees.  We stripped down the number of pages on the site, eliminated all the image pop ups, increased the image sizes across the board and generally simplified the site as our own aesthetic has become a bit more simplified. You might also notice a couple big changes to our new site. We have done away with the Tshirt of the Month club, an idea we pioneered from the beginning but from which we could never quite keep up with or update frequently enough. Considering the idea has since spread and some of our predecessors have done it better than we ever have, we decided to scrap it. Also absent is the Artist Society section.  Not that we have done away with working with some of the most talented artists out there today. We certainly are going to continue in that tradition. To simplify though, we've consolidated the Artist Society tees into the basic, all encompassing, Tshirts section.

In conjunction with our new website launch, we are dropping our new line, Wilderness.  This is our first line in over 2 years that Zach has art directed since rejoining Tank Theory as creative head. We are really excited with the theme and direction of the new line. We hope you enjoy the new tees as much as we do!

In celebration of the new launch and new line we are having a special offer for a limited time. Upon checkout, enter "Wilderness" into the promo code box for 15% off your entire order!

Thanks and welcome to Tank Theory 2012 and beyond...
