Lupo Avanti Tshirt/Print Combo

Tuesday, May 21, 2013

Enough noise and pressure and it's possible to awake the worm at the world's end.  Awaken the worm and all hell breaks loose.  Gravity flips, physical objects implode and time and space become irrelevant. The only way to stop the worm from consuming the world is to also awaken the Snake Eater, the only thing that can eat the worm and right the world.

That's the synopsis behind John Lupo Avanti's new tshirt for Tank Theory, Snake Eater.  Get one by itself or, better yet, in Lupo's Tshirt/Print Package! This includes the Snake Eater tshirt and 4 color "Buffalo" silkscreen print.  We'll even throw in a couple of Lupo's "Distant Father" mini prints as well.

Buffalo print is a 4 color screenprint on bright white paper - size 18x24", edition of 60, signed and numbered by the artist.

tshirt is a 4 color screenprint on black

4x6 mini prints are digital prints on fine art paper.

Semi Permanent - Portland Edition

Monday, Feb 25, 2013

Semi Permanent is coming to Portland in March. Semi Permanent is a huge design conference that started in 2003 in Sydney, Australia and has since spead around the globe, from New York to London to Hong Kong and now the Pacific Northwest.

We have been long time (online penpal) friends of Andrew Johnstone, co-founder of Semi Permanent and the art and design  In fact, we credit much of the success and recognition of the Tank Theory brand in Australia and abroad to the hype generated by Andrew and Design is Kinky.

Well we are happy to finally have met Andrew in person, as he's spending some time in Portland surrounding the event. After all the help he has given to spread the gospel of Tank Theory abroad, we thought it only fair to help him out while in our town. What way best to help out?  Tshirts of course!  Zach volunteered to cook up some character work to embellish the Semi Permanent logo for volunteers at the event both here and in LA next.  He worked on a couple different versions and I think the the winner turned out to be the simplest.. The linework masked into the Semi Permanent logo.. classic black and white.

Oh and for those in the Northwest, some info about the event below:

Acid Reflux

Saturday, Sep 22, 2012

Tank Theory's own, Zach Johnsen, is showing his newest body of work at MOHS gallery in Copenhagen.  Entitled "Acid Reflux", the work follows in the vein of his last couple shows, depicting entangled and explosive forms of everyday office people.  This show takes his work a step further.. with multiple bodies jumbling together into one gigantic explosion (or implosion) of limbs and soft drinks.. nature and man made.  This is some of his best yet.

In honor of his newest exhibition, he is offering two of the main show pieces as prints as well!

We are loving the Reeper Girl tee designed by Lupo Avanti.  This is available now in our shop.  Looks like Lupo did a full fledged painting of this design as well which is just too cool!

Surface Pattern Exhibition

Monday, May 14, 2012

James Roper, one of our Tank Theory Artist Society contributors, shot over info on a new show he's exhibiting in, called Surface Tension. James' work always blows our minds, so don't miss this opportunity to check out his work.  Anyone in Dallas should go and check it out! Info below...

SURFACE PATTERN, a group show featuring works by Dean Monogenis, Pepa Prieto, Misato Suzuki, Thomas Spoerndle, Morgan Blair, Lucas Martell, John Guthrie, James Roper, Jessy Nite, Eddie Villanueva, Books Bischof, and Maxomatic.
Within this survey of abstraction, each artist examines the rich complexity of form, color, and line; defining and reinventing the surface of each composition.

Departing from representational accuracy, pre-existing forms are exaggerated or simplified; challenging the audiences perception, transforming visual language, and posing meaningful contradictions. From fluid and organic to geometric and methodical, each surface is carefully structured to reflect an array of visual stimulus. Some works are playful and inviting, others meditative or incongruous; yet all fixating and enticing the viewers neurological attraction.
The goal of each pattern is to exist without reference from the visual world. The goal of each surface is to amplify or displace each pattern, transforming otherwise disparate images into carefully constructed visual stimuli.  Methodical, meditative, intuitive, visceral, and calculated. As Arshile Gorky so eloquently put it, “ ..Abstract art enables the artist to perceive beyond the tangible, to extract the infinite out of the finite. It is the emancipation of the mind. It is an explosion into unknown areas.”

Opening: May 12th, 6pm - 10pm

May 12th - June 16th 2012 at:

Circuit 12 Contemporary
